The end of another term!

The last post, for now!  Welcome back, dear reader! In this post, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the assignments I completed and the overall experience of the Current Issues in Teaching course. What a journey it’s been! First, I want to give a big thank you to our wonderful professor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Kurt Tiftik, for her guidance throughout the term. And of course, a huge shoutout to my awesome teammates, Selen and Berkay, for their great teamwork and creativity while working on our projects together! Now, let’s jump into my reflections and look back at this exciting term! My reflections are as follows... What are the strengths and weaknesses of the course? I think the strongest aspect of the course is, as the name suggests, that we focus on very current topics. In each new topic, we work on tasks that can enrich our lessons when we become teachers in the future. As for the weakest part, I would say having a written exam for a course where we put in so much effort and d...

Let's Create AI-Integrated Teaching Material!

Creating Heroes with AI Magic! Hi there, dear reader! This time, I’m thrilled to share the creative process of our latest project with my teammates, Selen and Berkay. We designed AI-integrated teaching material as a follow-up activity for high school prep students learning about adjectives. Our mission? To encourage students to bring their imagination to life! The Task So, dear reader, here’s how it works! We created a worksheet where students start by brainstorming adjectives to describe superheroes. Imagine words like "fearless," "graceful," or "sneaky" shaping unique characters. Then comes the exciting part—using ChatGPT to transform their descriptions into a visual hero! Students can change the image until it matches their vision, name their hero, and write a brief paragraph about their powers and personality. It doesn’t end there, dear reader! We’ve also added a reflection section for students to share their thoughts on how ChatGPT helped their crea...

Exploring AR/VR Teaching Materials!

Let's explore AR/VR-integrated teaching material! Hi there, dear reader. Welcome back! This week, we dove into a super exciting project: creating AR/VR-integrated teaching material! Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? Our task, assigned by our teacher, was to design a learning experience for high school English prep students that uses AR/VR to bring lessons to life. We were asked to introduce landmarks, a museum, and a cultural highlight of a city and then bring it all together with an engaging worksheet for the students. So, where did our journey take us? Brazil! More specifically, the dynamic and colorful city of Rio de Janeiro. Our Work Our task was to create a fun way for students to learn about Rio, dear reader. Using 360-degree YouTube videos and Google Arts & Culture, we took them on a virtual tour of the National Museum of Fine Arts, where they explored amazing exhibits. We asked interesting questions to make them think and share their ideas—like picking their favorite artwork...

Flipping the Classroom: A Fun Way to Learn

Resim
Experiencing the Flipped Classroom Approach  Dear reader, For this project, we tried something new: a flipped classroom approach! It’s when students learn the material at home (think videos or readings) and spend class time doing activities or practicing what they learned. This method has its advantages and disadvantages. On the bright side, it allows students to learn at their own pace and makes classroom time more interactive. However, it can also be challenging for teachers to prepare effective videos and materials. While we haven’t fully implemented it in practice, we’re assuming the role of teachers experimenting with this method—and we’re so excited to experience how it works! Our Task Our task was to design a flipped classroom experience for high school prep students by creating a teaching video and a quiz to support their learning. Berkay, Selen, and I chose the grammar topic Comparative and Superlative Adjectives from Unit 5 of the MEB prep kaynağının 5. ünitesinde...

CORPUS-BASED TEACHING MATERIAL!

Using corpus as an educational tool!  Hi there, dear reader! Today I want to share our fun journey creating a worksheet and lesson plan as a group work focusing on the verbs "get" and "take." Trust me, it was quite the adventure! The Task and Our Awesome Material So, what did we do? We designed a worksheet to help preparatory school students master the tricky differences between "get" and "take." Here's the scoop: we gave them a short story filled with blanks where they had to choose the right verb. But before diving into the story, the students did some detective work using a corpus (a big collection of texts) to see how these verbs are used in real life. After filling in the blanks, they listened to the story to check their answers. Cool, right? I'll include the worksheet at the end of this post, so stay tuned dear reader! Data-Driven Learning Using a corpus as a tool for data-driven learning has huge benefits. It allows students to see...

WELCOME BACK!

What have we done so far? Let's evaluate the semester!

Resim
We've reached the end of another term! Hello my dear reader, today I came to say goodbye for a short time, we talked about a lot of things together, didn't we?✌ Now it's time to evaluate them and choose our favorites!💫 I mentioned that I opened this course for the technology course I took, I complete the tasks given by my teacher and share them here. Now it's time to evaluate this lesson and our work. Technology integration in language teaching Dear reader, as you know, all the posts I have made so far have touched on technology integration in language education. As a future teacher and a student who grew up with technology, I was always aware of the importance of keeping up with this development and integrating technology "correctly" into lessons.💪 Taking such a course was very useful in teaching me how to use technology as well as how not to use it. We started these tasks with infographics and continued with podcasting, digital storytelling, calloborative ...
